Limited OB Ultrasounds

A positive pregnancy test alone doesn’t provide the details needed to protect your health. Only an ultrasound confirms your pregnancy, helps you weigh your options, and more.

Choices Medical Services offers limited OB ultrasounds following positive pregnancy testing. Before making a pregnancy decision, receive essential information and get your questions answered.

How Does An Ultrasound Work?

An ultrasound is a scan that uses low-power sound waves to view your reproductive organs. These sound waves create an image of your pregnancy, allowing a provider to monitor its development.

Early in pregnancy, a transvaginal ultrasound is performed. A small, wand-like device called a transducer is inserted gently into the vagina. This scan is done early in pregnancy to provide the clearest image.

Later on in pregnancy, an abdominal ultrasound is used, which involves a transducer gently moved over the abdomen.

Why Do I Need An Ultrasound?

Before you make any pregnancy decision, you need an ultrasound to learn vital details. This scan provides the following information:

Viability

As many as 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. An ultrasound will detect whether your pregnancy is viable, which means it is developing and there is a heartbeat.

If you’ve had a miscarriage, you may need monitoring or treatment to prevent complications.

Gestational Age

Knowing how far along you are can help determine your options. For example, medical abortion is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks gestation. Taking abortion drugs after that time can pose health risks.

Location

Pregnancies should develop in the uterus. However, some women experience an ectopic pregnancy—a life-threatening condition that occurs when the fertilized egg implants in another location (i.e., a fallopian tube or the cervix).

Ectopic pregnancies require immediate medical treatment to prevent complications and preserve your health.

Having an ultrasound is an integral part of the decision-making process. We’ll help you get what you need before weighing your options.
