Experiencing STD Symptoms

Are you looking for STD testing options near you?

When should I take a pregnancy test?

While it can be possible to receive accurate results before missing a menstrual cycle, pregnancy tests are most accurate after missing a month’s menstrual cycle.

What are my options if I’m pregnant?

Once you have a verified pregnancy, you have three options to consider: parenting, adoption and abortion. Finding out you are pregnant can cause a wide-range of emotions, so we encourage you to talk to a family member or friend you trust. Our staff is more than willing to discuss your options with you and those you choose to include in your decision-making process. No one should be pressured into making a decision about their pregnancy. We want to provide a safe place for you to make the healthiest decision possible.

How will I receive my test results?

You will receive your pregnancy test results at the time of your appointment. STI results will take 5-7 days to receive. We will make a plan at the time of your appointment on how you would best like to receive these results.

Do you prescribe birth control?

Choices Medical Services clinics do not provide, nor refer, for birth control. However, if you are seeking information about birth control, an appointment can be made for you upon request.

Do you provide Plan B?

We do not provide emergency contraception (Plan B, the Morning After Pill, etc.), however, we can discuss how it works and possible side-effects of its usage. For more information, call 417-624-8030.

Do you offer services for men?

Yes! We recognize that an unplanned pregnancy can be overwhelming for the man involved. In the same way that we offer advocacy services for pregnant women, we also offer these services for their partners. In addition to meeting with a Men’s Advocate (and per the female client’s consent) the father of the baby will be present for the pregnancy test results and, if applicable, the ultrasound. For those men preparing to be a father for the first time, we offer online education classes specifically for you!

How do I prepare for my visit?

You will need a photo ID and should not use the restroom within an hour of your visit, to ensure the most accurate test results. If you have Medicaid and would like any lab fees billed to them, please make sure you bring your Medicaid card with you to your appointment.

How will I get my test results?

You will receive your pregnancy test results at the time of your appointment. STI results will take 5-7 days to receive, so we will schedule a follow-up appointment for you at the time of your testing.

Should I get tested for STIs?

The Centers for Disease Control recommends STI/STD testing any time you have had new or multiple sex partners. There are four types of sex that can put you at risk for contracting an STI: mutual masturbation, oral sex, vaginal sex and anal sex. Many infections may not cause symptoms but can still be passed between partners. Also remember that while condoms may reduce the risk of getting pregnant or contracting an STI/STD, even if used consistently and correctly each and every time, they cannot provide 100% protection.

What’s the difference between STI and STD?

Medically, infections are called diseases when they begin to cause symptoms, which is why many people use both STI and STD when discussing sexual health. however, it is common for people to use the term STD when there are no signs of the infection.

Am I not tested for STIs during my yearly check-up?

While the services performed in a yearly check-up vary by physician, most physicians will not screen for STIs unless requested to do so. Please ask your physician for more information about what testing they routinely offer during your appointment. Remember that the Centers for Disease Control recommend screening any time you have had new or multiple sex partners.

If I’m under 18, do I need my parents’ permission for testing?

Because STI and pregnancy testing can often lead to a wide range of follow-up discussions, we encourage all of our clients to talk to a family member or friend that they trust. If you choose, you may bring them to the appointment. However, because of the Sexual Health Reproductive laws in Missouri, we are able to provide full testing and treatment to you without parental consent. We also strive to provide all of our services at the lowest cost possible so that there is no need for services to be billed to you or your guardian’s insurance provider. We pride ourselves in making your health and confidentiality our top priority.

Do I have to be tested for everything?

No – our medical professionals will help you assess which infections you are at the greatest risk for and which tests are recommended.
